MMI Honors Heckert with Star Spirit Award

Sandy Heckert was honored with the Star Spirit Award, Mid Michigan
Industries’ equivalent of an employee of the year award.

Nominations are submitted to MMI President Alan Schilling, who selects an
individual who contributes in unique ways to MMI’s mission of “Enriching
Lives through Employment, Training and Community Access.”

MMI Honors Holmes as Employee of Month

Mid Michigan Industries’ employee of the month for April is Dee Holmes.

In July 1999, Holmes began working at MMI as a rotating job coach. She
received her Employment Training Specialist Certificate in 2003. According
to MMI, she is a positive person and has a “Do Whatever Needs to be
Done” attitude. She is flexible, dedicated to her job, and is always willing to
make adjustments in her personal schedule to meet the requirements of a
contract. For her job as a float, Dee must know the specific details for the
different job sites covered by MMI, as well as for all the individuals working
on the crews.


Developmental Disability Self-Advocates Meet With Law
Makers at Annual Event

LANSING - On Feb. 13, more than 130 statewide developmental
disabilities advocates met with their state legislators during the Michigan
Department of Community Health (MDCH) Developmental Disabilities
Council's 14th Annual Legislative Event at the Radisson Hotel in downtown
Lansing.

During the event members from Regional Inclusive Community Coalitions
(RICC) across the state met with their state lawmakers to discuss policy
issues affecting the developmental disability community. RICCs are local
self-advocacy groups made of members with developmental disabilities,
their friends or family members, community leaders, and service providers.

Wixson Honored as MMI Employee of the Month

John Wixson Jr. is honored as Mid Michigan Industries employee of the
month for February.

Wixson has been the sales coordinator for MMI since July 2009. He came
to MMI at a very difficult time. With the collapse of the automobile industry in
2008, MMI saw its manufacturing revenues plummet by over 50 percent in
one year, according to a press release from MMI announcing Wixson’s
achievements.

Wixson worked diligently over the past three plus years to increase
manufacturing sales and diversify the types of work available. During this
time, Wixson has not only displayed good salesmanship skills, but has also
brought a lot of manufacturing expertise, as well as a high mechanical
aptitude to the position.


Charlie Garrett named MMI Employee of the Month

Mid Michigan Industries is honoring Charlie Garrett as the employee of the
month for September.

Garrett began working for MMI in November of 2002 as a CM Life and
Aramark job coach for the Central Michigan University contracts. He is
currently working on the CMU grounds crew as well as continuing with the
CM Life contract. Over the years he has worked in many different
departments of MMI and is always willing to help whenever he can. He has
assisted on many occasions in MMI’s Community Connections.

Brian Trisel named MMI employee of the month

Mid Michigan Industries is honoring Brian Trisel as the employee of the
month for August.

Trisel began his career with MMI in February of 2000 as a job coach for the
CMU grounds crew. In July 2003, he was promoted to the position of
community employment-connections coordinator. In this role, Trisel provides
coverage in all the different counties that MMI serves and is required to be

Deb Steere named MMI employee of the month

Mid Michigan Industries is honoring Deb Steere as the employee of the
month for June.

Steere has been with MMI for more than 10 years. She began her career as
an office associate in April of 2002 at the Mt. Pleasant office. In February
2005, she was promoted to her current position of accounting specialist.

Walk and roll for Mental Health Awareness

MMI honors Johnson as employee of the month

De Johnston has been selected as MMI's employee of the month for March.

Johnston began her career with MMI in September of 2011 as the job
coach for the general janitorial contract that includes Firstbank, MMR,
Multiband, Broadway Theatre, the EightCAP office, and the Mt. Pleasant

sale of these calendars will be used to maintain MMI's art programs and
allow MMI to increase the number and variety of creative activities available
to participants.

During the past year, individuals were given several opportunities to
express themselves artistically, including participating in the City of Mt.
Pleasant's Festival of Banners and the Chair Affair sponsored by Art
Reach. These opportunities allowed individuals to build self-esteem and
self-confidence through their participation in the arts.

MMI honors Fitzhenry

Mid-Michigan Industries December Employee of the Month is June
Fitzhenry.

Fitzhenry has worked at MMI for the past year as a Mt. Pleasant-contingent
connections coach. She is known for her compassionate attitude, not only
about the people served by MMI, but her co-workers as well. In honoring her,
MMI said that Fitzhenry gives 100 percent, no matter what department she
is covering.


MMI Honors Kidder as Employee of Month

Mid-Michigan Industries is honoring Gwen Kidder as the employee of the
month for November.

Kidder has beenwith MMI since 1990. She originally was hired as an
activities supervisor, now known as a connections coach, for MMI's Mt.
Pleasant office. She currently provides services in MMI's Transitional
Employment with Extra Supports Program. She once directed the assembly
of more than 80,000 individual partitions, which netted MMI its largest
single-month payout from that account.
