MMI's Employee of the Month for August

MMI's Employee of the Month for August is Angella Shoffner. Angie is our Vocational Coordinator and has been with MMI since November. In this position, Angie is responsible for assisting 20+ students in meeting their vocational goals through the Community Based Education (CBE) Program. She focuses on the students who are in the work study program and students that are in their final year of CBE. Many of the students work at various job sites throughout the community. Angie observes them at their work experience sites and helps each student to develop goals that will help them improve their work skills. She gives them encouragement and regular feedback and is always there to help them. She has helped students get work experiences doing jobs of their choice and has helped them and their parents get connected to agencies in the community that provide respite, financial support, and counseling services.
Angie is dedicated to MMI and its mission. She truly believes that each student is special and deserves to reach their fullest potential and achieve their dreams. She is positive and can get along with a variety of personalities, which is essential when communicating with parents, teachers, and students. Angie has recently worked on some extra projects for the students. A recent success was making a film that was presented at an appreciation breakfast for the business owners of the work experience sites. Angie's also made a class picture for each student and job coach in the program. This was especially meaningful to the students who were graduating. Further, Angie skillfully developed work sites and coordinated extensive paperwork with MRS/MMI so that 2 groups of students could work this summer for minimum wage. The students are very excited about working and getting a paycheck. Angie has also shown great flexibility and willingness to help in other program areas. She has spent time assisting in the WAVE program and taking on extra duties in addition to her regular work. MMI is proud to have Angie as the August Employee of the Month.
